With more than 10 years of tradition, the “Young Wine Festival” is one of the largest tourist events in Plovdiv Municipality. The festival supports and promotes Bulgarian wine production and traditional Bulgarian food.
The beginning was put together with the participation of 16 bulgarian wineries in 6 revival houses in the Old Town of Plovdiv in 2009. Ten years later the feast gives the opportunity to Plovdiv and city guests from over 50 countries around the world to touch the history and culture of Plovdiv, trying the taste of the whole of Bulgaria. The number of participants in the jubilee edition in 2018 is over 45, locations in the Old Town are already over 12, and visitors reached a record of 23 000 people.
The XIth edition of “Young Wine Festival” will take place on the third weekend of November – 15, 16 and 17 November. For another year, the organizers of “Tourism Council – Plovdiv” are preparing a rich accompanying program throughout the week. “Days of Young Wine” await you from November 11th to November 17th.
This year the festival will start with the colorful Dionysius parade from the square in front of the Municipality to the Old Town, accompanied by the Trakia ensemble on November 15th /Friday/ at 13:00, which will lead the visitors to an unforgettable wine- a tour of the historical values of the Old Town. The Lord of Wine, Dionysus, will open the first barrel of young wine of a selected participant – a gold medalist from the previous edition, which will officially start the tastings to be held in the three days as follows:
- FRIDAY, 15 NOVEMBER – 14-18h.
- SATURDAY, 16 NOVEMBER – 11-18h.
- SUNDAY, 17 NOVEMBER – 11-17h.
Visitors can purchase tasting tokens at the entrance of each house at the festival locations. One token gives the right to a tasting. The packages you can choose from include tokens, branded glasses, cup holders, branded bags with a separation of 2 bottles of wine and corkscrews.
For the event, the organizers together with Plovdiv CityCard prepare a special tourist offer: Plovdiv City Card – “Young Wine Festival”. This is a limited City Card series that only applies to days of the event and includes a full package of tastings, visits to cultural and historical attractions as well as discounts on certain sites.
The Tourism Council – Plovdiv and the Plovdiv Municipality organize “Young Wine Festival” in active cooperation with the Old Plovdiv Plovdiv School, Regional Historical Museum and Regional Ethnographic Museum, the University of Food Technology – Plovdiv, Sol Communications Ltd., Plovdiv 2019 Foundation, the vocational high schools and higher education institutions, all participants in the wine business. “Young Wine Festival” occupies an important place in the Plovdiv calendar and is part of the National Tourist Calendar.
