Over 18,000 people tasted a new wine in Plovdiv’s Old Town during the weekend

This year’s eighth edition of “Young Wine Festival” in Plovdiv was of great interest. Tasting of young wine took place in the emblematic houses of the Old Town traditionally on the last weekend of November. The event registered a record number of visitors – over 18 000 people during the 3 days enjoyed the young wines of 32 winemakers from all over Bulgaria. Organized groups of foreign and Bulgarian tourists participated in the tastings and visited the Old Town of Plovdiv.

The greatest interest was in the production of Shato Kopsa, followed by the guilt of Angels Estate AD. In most places, specially prepared food for tasting was offered, and the producers of honey took part in the festival with their ecological production. The tastings were accompanied by the specially prepared repertoire of the outstanding musicians and dancers from Trakia Ensemble, which enjoyed visitors to one of the most massive and important wine tourism events in the country.

On the 26th of November, “Wine Makers Evening”, the winners for the best young white, red and rosé wines were announced, according to the regulation set by the Tasting Commission. According to him, the wines to be evaluated can be purely varietal or coupled with the current harvest. With Golden Dionysus in the “Red Wine” category, Edoardo Miroglio’s Bouquet was awarded. In the “Rose” category, the winner is Rubin of VI Bendida. Golden Dionysus for the best white wine in the tasting contest was given to the Minkov Brothers with Sauvignon Blanc. Special Gold Dionysos was handed to Santa Maria for the Kuwait-Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc.

Visitors’ prizes determined on the basis of the results of the questionnaire that each tasted a visitor to the “Young Wine Festival” filled with white, red and rosé wine were won by Cozia Gramada – Best White Wine, -good rosé and VI Todorov – the best young red wine for 2016.

“Young Wine Festival” is a registered trademark registered by the Tourism Council of Plovdiv for organizing and holding tastings of young Bulgarian wines during the last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of November in different houses in Old Plovdiv.

“Young Wine Festival” aims to popularize the uniqueness of the Old Town and the sights of Plovdiv, the good qualities of the Bulgarian young wine, to attract more tourists and guests to the city and the country. In the cozy atmosphere of the Renaissance houses of the Old Town of Plovdiv, the guests of the festival have the opportunity to taste the young wines of producers from different regions of the country.

“Young Wine Gorge” is organized by the Tourism Council – Plovdiv and Plovdiv Municipality in active cooperation with the Old Plovdiv Plovdiv School and the University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv, as well as the vocational high schools, higher education institutions, catering companies, souvenir makers , wine producers and institutions related to culture and art in the city. Official sponsors are: Krivitsky and Sie, United Bulgarian Bank, Techno Actas AD, BASF AD and Water Klisura.
