More than 7,000 people from all over the world visited the Wine and Gourmet Festival during the weekend.
The tasting of wine and culinary specialties took place in the emblematic houses of the Old Town traditionally during the first weekend of May. Despite the bad weather, the Festival has recorded a record number of participants – over 7,000 people who have visited the event for 2 days. Organized groups of foreign tourists from the United States, France, England, Holland, Greece, Turkey, China and others, as well as Bulgarians from all over the country took part in the tastings of 12 leading culinary and 19 winemakers from all over the country.
The event successfully imposed and popularized the culture of wine and food combining, and this year’s edition was the glorious temptation of the leading chefs from Plovdiv and the region who created for Wine & Gourmet specially over 300 culinary combinations with 50 of the presented wines .
All participants and visitors were very pleased with the opportunity to join the Wine & Gourmet 2017 Festival and expect to visit the Old Town again in November of the Young Wine Festival.
Visitors showed the greatest interest in the wines of the Regional Hospital, followed by MELVINO and SANTA MARIA. On May 6, at a special gala dinner at the Philippopolis restaurant, the committee of leading specialists announced and awarded the best collections of wine and food.
The international jury of experts has been extremely difficult to distinguish winners due to the high level of all presented combinations. That is why two first places were given:

Chardonnay Barrel FERMENTID 2016 STRATSIN, combined with homemade cow’s cheese with fig jam, produced by PHOTO CLUB RESTAURANT.
The chairman of the committee, Prof. Y. Aleksieva, noted the exceptionally high level of this year’s presentation to all the participants, especially the restaurateurs and catering companies. This was the reason why four third and third places were awarded.
Wine and Gourmet Festival is a registered trademark registered by the Tourism Council of the City of Plovdiv for organizing and conducting tastings of Bulgarian wine and cuisine in May in different houses in Old Plovdiv. Wine and gourmet defile aims to popularize the uniqueness of the Old Town and the sights of Plovdiv, the good qualities of Bulgarian wine and food, attract more tourists and guests to the city and the country. In the cozy atmosphere of the Renaissance houses of the Old Town of Plovdiv, the guests of the festival have the opportunity to taste the wine and cuisine combinations of producers from different regions of the country.
Wine and gourmet defile is organized by the Tourism Council – Plovdiv and the Municipality of Plovdiv in active cooperation with the Old Plovdiv Plovdiv School, the University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv, Tourism – Plovdiv, professional high schools and higher education institutions, businesses, and all participants in the wine business, as well as institutions related to culture and art in the city.
